Things to do in the local area

We have horse riding stables next door to our B&B so if you would like us to arrange a ride we would be more than happy to do so. The sessions are £15 per person for a 30 minute hack and £25 for a full hour. Longer rides for more experienced riders are also available and can include a pub lunch.

Bickleigh Mill

Bickleigh Mill is a lovely 18th century watermill and pottery studio in the heart of Devon. Bicton Park

Enjoy over sixty acres of beautiful gardens with their soft sweeping lawns, elegant water features, fragrant English borders and Formal Gardens.

Braunton Sands

The village of Braunton is the gateway to North Devon’s Golden Coast. It is situated in North Devon on the A361 5 miles to the west of Barnstaple, with its High Street shops, daily Pannier Market and leisure centre. 9 miles to the north lies Ilfracombe, with its picturesque harbour and regular passenger ferry to Lundy Island.

Cheddar Caves and Gorge

A major attraction for over 200 years, with plenty to do above and below ground.

Cothay Manor

Cothay Manor, a 15th century medieval manor, is open, by appointment, for group visits. One of Somerset’s finest historic houses, Cothay is surrounded by twelve acres of magically romantic gardens that are open to the general public Wed, Thurs, Sun and B/Hols, 2pm-6pm

Crealy is a great family day out with something for all ages, from soft play for toddlers to death slides for Dads!

Croyde Bay

Croyde Bay in Devon is part of the beautiful Heritage Coastline in North Devon and is a favourite destination for families and surfers alike. Croyde village is a charming little hamlet of thatched cottages with many places to eat, buy gifts and hire beach equipment – including surfboards. Croyde Bay sits in between the neighbouring beaches of Saunton Sands, Putsborough and Woolacombe.

Devon Railway Centre is a popular Devon Tourist attraction, offers a unique railway experience and boasts a host of attractions in one location. We offer an interactive fun filled day out. Our two railways give unlimited train rides along the Exe Valley and opportunities for you to become involved! Children can wave the flag to start our trains.

Diggerland

Situated in the grounds of Verbeer Manor in Cullompton, Devon – this is by far the Dads’ favourite of adventure parks.

Dinosaurland Fossil Museum

Dinosaurland Fossil Museum is housed in a magnificent building. It aims to show people aged 5 to 85 just how exciting and wonderful the world of fossils and dinosaurs really is.

Dunster and Castle

You will fall in love with this ancient medieval Village on Exmoor. Dunster is an idyllic medieval village set in Exmoor National Park. With a wealth of heritage and history from the National Trust’s 11th century Dunster Castle to the Old Yarn Market in the middle of the high street. A focal point for the old Exmoor wool and cloth trade.

Exmoor Falconry & Animal Farm

Exmoor Zoo

Exmoor Zoo is unique and an unusual zoo to visit! Opened in 1982 the zoo is now an ideal family venue, especially for the younger generation. Changes keep taking place, even a visit last year, will today see new exhibits and animals! Approx. 25 miles from Knowle Manor.

Exmouth Beach

Exmouth beach on the East Devon coast – where there is loads to do around this sandy beach. From trampolines, mini trains, large slides, ball parks, etc.

Haldon Forest Park

Haldon Forest Park is a great forest park. With trails for a short walk, or hire a bike and discover the cycle trails or join in the fun on the Play Trail. Alternatively sign up for the Go Ape high wire adventure course or if an experienced mountain biker, take to the Freer Ride Trails. Something for all the family.

Hestercombe House

Hestercombe is a unique collection of three gardens spanning three centuries of garden history and design. All have undergone acclaimed restoration works and today provide important examples of gardens in contrasting styles that continue to grow and develop. Hestercombe offers a great destination for an exciting short stop or a wonderful leisurely day out. Walk the gardens, visit the Courtyard to enjoy delicious refreshments – or browse in our beautiful Gift Shop which is filled with interesting and unusual gifts, books and a well stocked plant centre.

Killerton Country House – National Trust

Would you give away your family home for your political beliefs? Sir Richard Acland did with his estate, one of the largest the National Trust has acquired at 2,590 hectares (6,400 acres) with 20 farms and 200-plus cottages. Killerton House, built in 1778–9, brings to life generations of the Aclands, one of Devon’s oldest families. The historic fashion exhibition, ‘Elegance’, explores the fabulous and luxurious dress of the past 200 years. The gem of Killerton, beautiful year round, is the garden created by John Veitch, with rhododendrons, magnolias and rare trees surrounded by rolling Devon countryside

Knightshayes Court – National Trust

One of the finest surviving Gothic Revival houses, built in the lush landscape of mid Devon, Knightshayes Court is a rare example of the work of the eccentric and inspiring architect William Burges. Built for the grandson of pioneer lace-maker John Heathcoat in 1869, the house is an exciting architectural experience, with extraordinary ‘medieval’ romantic interiors, rich decoration and ceramics. The vast garden, which was the Heathcoat Amory family’s great passion, is renowned for its rare trees, shrubs and seasonal colours. The restored and fully productive organic kitchen garden is a treat for everyone who enjoys local produce

Lundy Island

Lundy lies off the coast of North Devon, where the Atlantic ocean meets the Bristol Channel with nothing between it and America, a granite outcrop, three and a half miles long and half a mile wide. In the hubbub of the modern world it is a place apart, peaceful and unspoilt.

Lyme Regis

The royal town of Lyme Regis is situated on the Dorset coast close to the Devon border . Here you can either build sand castles in the sand or take a boat trip out of the ancient harbour. Mackerel Fishing – Join a one hour boat trip from Cobb Harbour aboard KRAKEN, an MCA licensed passenger boat. Try to catch your supper and see the amazing Jurassic coast from the sea. Treasure Trails
